Jeanswest Women's Denim Product Manager, Adrienne Famlonga gives us the lowdown on choosing denim for your shape and their new line, FREEDOM 360.
Alyce: Hi Adrienne! When shopping for jeans, what should we look for?
Adrienne: Look for a cut that flatters your body shape, but ensure you are comfortable when you wear them. Ensure the denim you choose works with your lifestyle and makes you feel good.
A: What are some changeroom warning signs that we've picked the wrong jean?
A: The biggest warning signs are not being able to get the zipper up, muffin top and if the denim is riding up in all the wrong places. If you face any of these hurdles, try another pair of jeans, you won’t regret it!
A: What's the best style of jean for each body shape?
A: If you rock a curvy hourglass or pear shape, our Curve Embracer jeans are the best - try our new Livia Freeform 360 Curve skinny for a sleek, everyday look. If you're more of a column with narrow hips and a smaller butt, then our Hip Huggers are best!
A: We understand you have a brand new denim line?
A: Yes! FREEFORM 360 is our latest collection, featuring multi directional stretch denim, with strong holding power and bounce back. The innovative fabric is from one of my favourite mills in Turkey! The vision for this range was all about comfort, support and functionality while still looking amazing. This denim stretches and moves with you in every direction, but makes you feel super supported and holds you in in all the right places.
A: Is dark wash the most flattering or does it depend on our body shape?
A: Black or very dark denim is the most flattering of colours, but a nice mid wash denim with the right amount of fading on the thighs can also slim the legs, it just needs to be the right positioning and intensity.
A: OK, what about rise? How do we choose between low, mid or high rise?
A: We are seeing a huge resurgence of the high rise, but personally I love the mid waisted rise. It sits higher over your hips and can still be worn with a t-shirt tucked in to do the high rise look.
A: Gaping backs and tight thighs are two huge problems we face. What's your advice?
A: Choose a cut that specifically caters for those problem areas. For example, a higher rise will combat gaping at the back - our Curve Embracer fits are designed specifically to cater for this problem.
A: What can we expect from the world of denim this year?
A: Raw, released, stepped, shredded and asymmetric hem details - it’s all about the hems! High waist relaxed & mom fits are really key for the season as is laundering, with distressing and heavy wash treatments playing a key role.
