With her love of glitter-encrusted eyewear and a well-coiffed lilac do, Dame Edna (once Mrs Norm Everage) has helped elevate the Melbourne housewife to gigastar status.
Embracing all things rhinestone-spangled, dotted in bulbous pearls or layered with mounds of wafting feathers, the glamorous mum of three is introducing her youngest son, couturier Kenny (Christian Wilkins), to the Australian public for Westfield's Family Autumn/Winter 2017 campaign.
For Dame Edna, family is about the simple things, like "having a modest snack in one of my smaller dining rooms, surrounded by my peeps".
As a well-established fashion aficionado, Edna says, "True style isn't something that changes like Melbourne weather; it is timeless and unchanging, like an attractive birthmark, or Donald Trump's hairstyle."
According to Edna, you should "never be afraid to laugh at yourself. After all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century".
For anyone not looking to her effervescent spirit when they shop this season’s maximalist, costume-box approach to style... the joke could be on them.
