Westfield: We loved your work on the Westfield SS17 shoot! What was it like styling such a fun campaign?
Nicole Adolphe: I loved every minute of it! I had such a broad range to work with product-wise; Westfield has everything from Harrold’s to Dotti, so it’s a stylists dream, really. I’ve never seen so much product in one room! Definitely one to remember.
W: How did you sort through the current offering to determine the key SS17 trends?
NA: That was tricky as there are always so many trends. Firstly, I look to runway images as inspiration and try to see how many designers seem to be doing similar things to determine whether it's a trend, like a particular print. For this campaign, we wanted it to be different, not so mainstream and a bit louder than usual, so I focussed on trends that were more statement like sequins and sheers. A few other key trends are metallics, multi stripes, feathers and hot pink and red.
W: Westfield SS17 is all about trying something new with fashion. What are your top tips to achieving this?
NA: Shoes are a good way to start; once you start getting those “Wow, your shoes!" comments, you'll be more likely to experiment up top. My best tip for dressing is start with a base and add more. For instance, if your thing is a t-shirt and jeans, try tying a scarf around your neck or wearing a scarf as a belt, then throw on a coloured leather jacket or khaki jacket. Layering is key to making the look fresh and quirky!
Also, when you're out shopping, don't play it safe with the same pieces as you no doubt already have those items in your wardrobe. Opt for trend pieces to team back with your basics! Try that printed dress, and if it feels too loud, you can tone it down with a denim jacket.
