W: What are your go to sources of inspiration to stay up to date with the latest trends?
KG: I love that you can now stream a lot of the overseas shows as they’re happening. I always find it so exciting to watch the shows in real time, and find it very inspiring to see the trends that will filter down over the coming months.
Aside from that I do also love the backstage images that come through- to see the models in a more nonchalant capture, and close details of the garments, really gives you another way of seeing the collections that has more of a candid realness to it.
I do also value great street style coverage- to see the way people interpret the trends with their own individual twist is really inspiring.
Of course it all started with the amazing Bill Cunningham, and now we have the likes of Phil Oh, Tommy Ton and Scott Schuman taking the lead. We are also lucky to have documenters like Streetsmith who perfectly capture the essence of Australian fashion in all it’s glory and eccentricities.
W: What do you love the most about your job?
KG: Probably all the amazing people I come into contact with. The job not only exposes you to people within the fashion industry, but creatives from all areas of design, the arts and production.
Working on fashion week events is always a highlight for me as it’s the one time of year you get to work as a team, a cog in the machine, where everyone’s end goal is to create something engaging and beautiful- from the lighting and tech guys, to the designers, volunteer dressers, music directors, models, and even the corporate head honchos. It is a great opportunity to collaborate with all levels of talent, creativity and personality, with one common goal at the end of it.
