The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy

NAIDOC Week 2025 will be held from Monday 7 July - Sunday 13 July and is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As we enter 2025, NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.

This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate not just a milestone but a movement that endures, grows, and evolves—driven by the unwavering strength of our communities, the shared vision of our people, and the enduring legacy we pass on to those who will shape our future. Together, we walk forward, honoring where we've come from and looking boldly to the next generation who will carry NAIDOC and their communities into the future.

The Minhi’s Netball NAIDOC Week Display

Where: Level 1, near Seed

The Minhi’s Netball Club is a First Nations owned and led not-for-profit organisation empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and communities of all backgrounds and abilities through netball, culture, and connection.

On display is the Club’s 2025 Indigenous Uniform, designed by Yorta Yorta woman Alkina Edwards, inspired by this year’s NAIDOC theme: “The Next Generations: Strength, Vision & Legacy.”
The artwork tells the story of mob gathering on the waterways—swimming, yarning, singing, and dancing. Gathering circles throughout represent different Nations coming together on Country, with flowing designs depicting land, waters, native animals, and traditional linework.

At its heart are two powerful totems from the Gamilaroi Nation—the Black Crow and Kaputhin’s Eagle—paying tribute to the legacy of the late Jesse Victor Barker (Par), a Kinchela Boys Home Survivor, and his sons, Uncle Justin and Uncle Jamie Barker.
Kaputhin, seen as a protector, messenger, and spirit guide, symbolises the strength to rise above.

We’ve introduced a simple jewellery-making and craft activity as part of our NAIDOC Week Workshop. This addition has been thoughtfully designed to create a safe, inclusive, and culturally meaningful space for neurodiverse children and participants with sensory sensitivities to enjoy at their own pace.
