Witchery: An interview with Witchery’s Head of Design Maria Kozub
Tell us about the latest collection? What inspired your designs?
The abundance of colour and print on the runway this season, a distinct change to the previous year with fun, vibrant tones.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
From a wide variety of sources, anything from an exciting meeting with the print studio, new fabric collections and key trends, print media in general, observing current street style dressing and the way people are combining unexpected colours, shapes and prints.
What are the keys trends for ’22 Spring/Summer? If we had to invest in three key pieces this season what would they be?
The key trend is colour – vibrant and uplifting colours. Other key trends are fun fruity tropical prints, and from a fabric perspective linen continues to be a key trend, along with pleated polyester.
My absolute three must have items is a light-weight summer blazer, oversized cotton shirt and a beautiful pair of wide-leg pants.
What item of clothing do you think everyone should own? Tell us about your favourite pieces?
A silk button-down shirt, a rib racer tank, an impeccably tailored linen blazer, and the perfect pair of jeans.
What is your vision for Witchery/ where do you want to take the brand to?
To create an accessible yet elevated collection that delivers on 24/7 style. A brand that is easy, versatile, stylish, polished and timeless. I want to create collections that resonate with Australian women of all ages.
What are you most excited for in your new role?
I’m excited to immerse myself in design direction and inspire the talent around me in the design process – to deliver beautiful ranges that inspire our customers to express their personality through Witchery clothing.
Who is the Witchery woman in your eyes?
The modern-day woman with a busy and successful life who wants to look and feel her best.
Where will you be wearing the latest collection? Are you planning to travel?
At this stage I’m just happy to be wearing the collection in the office and out and about in Melbourne. That in it’s self is a real treat and so nice to resume normality. For 2022, I’ll be wearing our collection to a holiday booked in Tasmania for my partners birthday.
