Shoes & Sox: Repurposing preloved footwear

Shoes & Sox, Level 1

At Shoes & Sox, we believe that every small step counts — especially when it comes to protecting our planet. That’s why we’re proud to partner with TreadLightly, a national recycling initiative that’s giving old shoes a brand-new purpose.

TreadLightly is on a mission to reduce landfill waste by repurposing preloved footwear into something meaningful — like soft fall matting and flooring used in playgrounds and gyms across Australia. It’s a simple but powerful way to keep shoes out of landfill and give them a second life.

Got a pair of shoes that’s seen better days? Don’t throw them out — donate them! Just bring your preloved kids’ shoes to any of our standalone Shoes & Sox stores and we’ll handle the rest.
Almost all styles are welcome — the only ones we can’t accept are heels and party shoes. Everything else can take that next step toward being recycled and reused.
Australians throw away millions of shoes each year — most of which end up in landfill. TreadLightly’s goal is to collect and recycle over one million pairs of shoes by 2026, and with your help, we can get there.

Together, we can make real change — one pair at a time. It’s an easy, everyday action that helps build a more sustainable future for our kids and communities.
So next time you’re visiting us, bring in those worn-out runners, preloved tiny toddler sneakers, or school shoes that no longer fit.
Let’s step up for the planet — together.
