When it comes to styling the bedroom, I like to keep things simple and easy to throw back together every morning. Whilst it might look beautiful and textured, the practicalities of having heaps of cushions on a bed really doesn’t translate to real life. Nobody wants to spend every morning picking them up from the floor where you’ve tossed them to get a good night’s sleep. Bring layers into your bedroom with different colours, textures and decor pieces and you’ll get that Pinterest-worthy space, without all the hassle.
You’ll want to keep the bedding light and breathable in the summer. Flax linen, like the Society of Wanderers striped duvet cover from Willows Home Traders, is the perfect solution for those hot summer nights, as the lightness of the material will promote airflow around you. With beautiful fresh stripes, you can always use this without a doona in the warmer months and have the loose bedding styled beautifully without making your bedroom look unfinished and empty.
Moving into summer we’re seeing lots of fun and fresh colour combos pop up. I styled this bedroom in two different looks, one with some lighter, brighter moments and the other in a warmer, earthy palette. Using the striped duvet cover as a base, it’s easy to bring different colour palettes in depending on your mood. Buttery yellows and bold lilac tones are extremely on-trend, and the hint of gingham and check patterns will have your room looking like it’s jumped off the pages of the latest magazines. Mixing neutrals with rust and olives, like the euro pillowcases from MyHouse, have a timeless quality but are still very on-trend, taking inspiration from our natural environment and bringing the outside in.
To switch things up as the seasons change, I like to have different accent pieces in the home and I move them from room to room. Simply swapping a lamp from your lounge room to your bedroom may seem like such a small action but it can change the entire tone of a space. Swap your vases and decor pieces around and treat your cushions like you would your pillowcases. You can get different cushion covers and store them in your linen cupboard - it’s so easy to swap different colours depending on your mood, and don’t forget to wash your cushion covers regularly!
I also love having a scented candle around to refresh the senses and soothe me to sleep at night. It’s always so comforting and cosy to bask in that warm, ambient glow as I wind down. If you’re looking to change things up even more, switch out your current wall prints for new ones. It’s a great and quick way to change up the aesthetic of your bedroom without having to do a huge overhaul.
When it comes to the bedroom, make life easy for yourself and don’t go overboard with decor. Pick a colour palette that you love and have a few key items that really make a statement. A sculptural vase, an interesting lamp, a great throw cushion – items like these will add all the personality and layering you need to a room. If you’re struggling to pick a colour palette, start with a piece of artwork you love and pull hues from that as your inspiration, it will help your bedroom feel cohesive and well-thought out.
