How Holly Titheridge nailed the season's hottest palette
It’s official – the colour palette trending this summer embraces beige, tan and all things neutral. We caught up with Creative Director of Base Colour Creative, Holly Titheridge, and her partner Shaun to get the intel on how to style these new neutrals, no matter the occasion.
Look 1: Holly
The epitome of spring/summer styling – a classic beige trench coat will see you through anything and everything. Dress up, dress down, wear it with denim, or tied at the waist as a dress. No matter how you wear it, this timeless piece is a key essential in every wardrobe.
Look 2: Shaun
A classic look with attention to detail. Small accents such as the pocket detail and pant pleats make this neutral look perfect for any relaxed daytime event – think long lunches, barbeques with friends or a cheeky end of year Christmas party.
Look 3: Holly
It’s all about two piece looks this season – versatility at its best! Regardless of whether you’re styling your look for the day ahead (think a sleek fedora, oversized tote and sandals as featured) or dressing it up with heels and a cute clutch for the evening, this look will never fail you.
Look 4: Shaun
The perfect look that encapsulates summer! Taking you from beach to bar, this look is laidback yet well put together so you can tackle whatever the weather throws at you. A short sleeve printed shirt is a must-have this season – light and breezy is the way to go.
Holly, how do you style a white tee for an effortless everyday look?
When I think of styling a white tee, I go back to the 90’s! Think mom jeans, an oversized blazer and micro sunglasses. The perfect combination of classic but cool vibes that will continue to be fashionable throughout the ages. Minimalist accessories such as a pair of gold hoop earrings and a sleek chain necklace help to complete the look too.
What are your tips on making a tan or beige palette work for any skin tone? Is there anything to avoid?
Neutrals can definitely work for any skin tone but the key is to focus on the shades. If you have a fair complexion, I would be reaching for deep warm tones such as tans, caramels and earthy khakis, whereas a darker complexion would suit light beige tones and a more muted palette. At the end of the day, just have fun with it – mixing and matching neutral tones in one look can really pay off.
What are your staple items in muted tones to elevate an outfit? Or as a versatile statement piece?
When I think of tones and versatility, my mind instantly goes to my favourite beige trench coat! It’s the first item I reach for when I want a classic look without much effort. It’s flattering, always on-trend, and a piece everyone should own. Another staple that has seen me through so many events is a beige suit with a simple tan clutch. Think timeless tailoring but even more fashion forward!
What is your number one tip for purchasing stylish clothes for your partner Shaun?
For a lot of men out there comfort and fit is a priority, so you need to focus on that and ensure they have versatile, quality pieces in their wardrobe. Start with the basics – oversized shirts, durable denims and fitted tees in muted colours. Sometimes this may mean spending a little more – but at the end of the day, cost per wear is everything! If they continue to wear an item over and over again, you know you have a winner that’s totally worth the investment.
