It’s time to celebrate: Cinemas are back

With Hoyts opening reopening on Thursday July 2, it’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of a comfy chair, freshly popped popcorn and a new movie release.

From a chick flick and choc-top with the girls to everyone's favourite date night out, here are the perfect combos to help you plan your next cinema trip!

Date Night:

Whether you’re looking for a first date idea or in need of some quality time with your partner, a bite to eat complemented by a new release is the perfect option (and one that has been off the cards for a while now).

Here are some of our top picks to fill your bellies before you settle in and enjoy the flick!

Now it’s time for the main event - grab yourselves some Maltesers and head on in to view one of these blockbusters:

  • The Personal History of David Copperfield From birth to infancy, from adolescence to adulthood, the good-hearted David Copperfield is surrounded by kindness, wickedness, poverty and wealth, as he meets an array of remarkable characters in Victorian England. As David sets out to be a writer, in his quest for family, friendship, romance and status, the story of his life is the most seductive tale of all.
  • Ghostbusters (1984) - Bonus Content After the members of a team of scientists lose their cushy positions at a university in New York City, they decide to become "ghostbusters" to wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, a doorway that will release evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters must now save New York from complete destruction.

Brunch with the girls

Gather the girls together for a much-needed leisurely catch up. It’s good for the soul, and there’s an option for everyone’s taste. Settle in for a brunch of the lengthy kind and let the conversation flow.

What’s better than brunch with the girls? A chick flick to follow! Keep in mind, it's been a while since your last trip to the cinemas, so why not upgrade to Xtremescreen and make the most of the whole experience? Here are the some titles the girls will love:

  • Love Sarah A young woman wishes to fulfil her mother’s dream of opening her own bakery in Notting Hill, London. To do this, she enlists the help of an old friend and her grandma.
  • Dolittle Dr. John Dolittle lives in solitude behind the high walls of his lush manor in 19th-century England. His only companionship comes from an array of exotic animals that he speaks to on a daily basis. But when young Queen Victoria becomes gravely ill, the eccentric doctor and his furry friends embark on an epic adventure to a mythical island to find the cure.

Family day out:

For the ultimate family day out, you can’t beat the trusty combination of lunch and a crowd-pleasing new release. Our range of kid-friendly bites are guaranteed to make life easier no matter the occasion.

Leave the entertaining to the big screen - popcorn for them, plus downtime for you, everyone wins. Welcome to the latest and greatest kids’ releases:

  • SAMSAM The young and intrepid SAMSAM has almost everything a cosmic-hero could dream of: loving, heroic parents, a bunch of super-friends and his own flying saucer to explore space... except that his first superpower hasn’t kicked in yet! When Mega, the new cool kid in school claims she can teach him superpowers, SAMSAM sees in the mysterious girl the chance to finally reveal his superhuman abilities. Together they will embark on a cosmic adventure where he will learn that friendship and courage may well be the best superpowers he could wish for.
  • Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs Princes who have been turned into Dwarfs seek the red shoes of a lady in order to break the spell, although it will not be easy. A parody with a twist.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski. Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.
