Summer’s best swimwear fits for every body

It’s time to hit the water, and with more and more brands embracing a variety of body shapes and sizes in their advertising campaigns and swimwear lines, you're bound to find the right style that will have you feeling your most confident. Read on for our best shape enhancing tips, plus a roundup of fun bathers that come in inclusive body shapes and sizes. There are solid colours, happy prints, and also options for our pregnant ladies. Basically, it’s swimwear shopping made easy.

One-piece

Perfect for those who prefer a little more coverage, one pieces are a timeless option that you can take from this summer to next. You’ll find a variety of styles that borrow from two-piece fits, plus trends like bold cut-outs that strategically cover-up but also show-off your best bits. Find your perfect fit by trying on a variety of different styles (including ones you may not naturally gravitate to - you might just surprise yourself!) but once you've got it, you’ll have it on high rotation all summer long.

Try: David Jones for Tommy Hilfiger, Cotton On and new to the swimwear game, Lorna Jane.

One shoulder top

An especially beautiful fit on athletic frames, they emphasise your arms and shoulders. Single strap tops tend to offer less support, so they’re often targeted towards those with a smaller bust. Top tip: if you’re keen on this style but need more support try adding your own moulded cups – you can buy them at most lingerie stores, such as Bras N Things.

Try: Seafolly, General Pants and Decjuba.

Bandeau top

A winner on all body types, this style can vary from simple and sporty to an ‘80s-inspired cut that mimics a sweetheart neckline. This season, you’ll find bandeaus in a variety of digital prints, solid shades and luxurious ribbed fabrics. If you’ve got a fuller bust, look out for brands that include removable straps for extra support.

Try: Cotton On, David Jones and Myer.

Triangle top

A forever classic, triangles can be worn on a bust of any size. If you’re above a D cup, you might feel more comfortable in something with adjustable straps and an underwire verse the standard halterneck fit but you do you. For smaller busts, pretty ruffle details can help balance proportions and create the illusion of more 'volume'. Got broad shoulders? Thicker straps work well.

Try: City Beach and Universal Store.

Underwire top

A no-brainer for bigger busts, an underwire offers support on the sand. It can also be a great option for smaller busts looking for lift, and team with a padded cup for maximum voluptuousness. There are so many options in this category. Go for bright solids, fun prints or interesting textures.

Try: Bras N Things and Honey Birdette.

Classic bottoms

A staple cut for many, classic swim bottoms sit somewhere between a midi and low-rise cut. If you’re all about emphasising your bottom, you’ll love these – they flatter all sizes, from narrow to peachy. They’re very comfortable for pregnant bellies too. Shop a matching set, or invest in a solid pair and cycle your tops to create different combos.

Try: Kmart, Seafolly and David Jones.

High cut bottoms

These have been big news in womenswear over the past few summers, thanks to their leg-lengthening powers. A fabulous fit for petite women, they come in a range of shapes – from slightly higher rise around the legs to super-high cut and cheeky on the bottom. Worried about lumps and bumps? Choose a firm fabric to smooth.

Try: Myer, City Beach and Cotton On.

High waisted bottoms

Great for those who like to keep their tummy under wraps, high waisted bottoms are chic and comfy. Go with a high-cut leg and they read ‘80s. Prefer a fuller cut around the bottom? Add a bandeau top and you’ve got a retro ‘50s moment. If you’ve got a shorter torso, opt for a midi cut to keep things in proportion.

Try: Seafolly or Ghanda Clothing.
