Get Front Row Ready

Get Front Row Ready

For the most part, it’s really hard saying goodbye to summer. We’ve all gotten used to our denim shorts, beach days and iced coffees. But it’s not all doom and gloom, because with the arrival of autumn comes more layers, more opportunities for experimentation, and more trends to add to our chic winter wardrobes.

Autumn also brings with it one Very Important Event on the social calendar: Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. Aka, FASHION WEEK.

To celebrate this momentous occasion we all love so much, we’ve put together three of the key trends we’re loving this A/W19. Whether you're hitting up the festival or just want from inspo from what those in the front row are wearing, we have you sorted!

Colour on colour

When you think of winter, which shades come to mind? Black? Camel? Grey? How about fluro green or neon orange? This AW, try stepping out of your comfort zone and into some colour instead — the more offensive on the eyes, the better. Try wearing the same colour head-to-toe, or clashing two colours in the one look. Feel a bit much? Tone it down with a neutral shade or a sharp blazer.

Alyce wears: Lioness from David Jones Blazer, Sheike top, Bardot skirt, Bardot heels, Mimco bag, Bardot sunglasses

Shop the trend: Witchery skirt, Country Road dress, Sheike jumpsuit, Sheike Jacket, Mimco hip bag, Lovisa earrings

Utility

If there’s one trend that’s threatening to take over this year, it’s utility. You might have noticed it’s started descending on your favourite stores already, with its military-inspired canvas fabrics, heavy hardware, cargo shapes and all things khaki. The utility trend is a great (and easy) one for the runway; go for an edgy statement piece and then add a few key accessories in complementary colours and prints.

Alyce wears: Bardot jupmsuit, Witchery boots, Witchery clutch, Don’t Ask Amanda from General Pants Hat, Witchery sunglasses, Witchery coin charm bracelet, Mimco plain round bracelet, Sheike earrings

Shop the trend: Bardot pants, Cotton On military jacket, Country Road dress, Seed culotte, Cue jacket, Windsor Smith boots

Suiting

Speaking of easy, let’s talk about suiting. This has got to be one of the most effortlessly cool trends there is, making it a complete no-brainer for fashion week. This year, look for super relaxed suiting with bonus details like bold stripes, party textures, big shoulders and plunging necklines. A couple of statement accessories to complete the look is all you need, because let’s be honest: all eyes will be on you in that suit. Better prepare your street style pose.

Alyce wears: Sass & Bide blazer, Sass & Bide pants, Wittner heels, Mimco clutch, Miss Shop Myer sunglasses, Witchery necklace

Shop the trend: Bardot blazer, Sheike jacket, Forever New coat, Cue sleeveless jacket, Cue leopard jacket, Mossman blazer from Myer

Statement accessories

Ah, accessories. What would we do without you? Accessories are, by far, the quickest and easiest way to get runway-ready. And seeing as it’s fashion week, the more ‘statement’ these accessories are, the better! Ditch your everyday sunglasses, flats and handbag, and opt for unique shapes, colourful shades, clashing prints eye-catching jewellery instead. Even if you’re wearing jeans and a tee from your wardrobe, you’ll feel like you’ve got a spot in the front row.

Shop the trend: Mimco heels, General Pants sunglasses, Lovisa earrings, Sheike necklace, Sportsgirl phone case, Cotton On bag, Mecca eye palette, Wittner sneakers
