Advantage For Dogs And Cats

Advantage is a spot-on flea control product registered for use in dogs, cats, rabbit and ferrets. It kills fleas and flea larvae in the environment on contact and also treats and prevents lice on these animals.

The effectiveness of Advantage is not diminished by contact with water so swimming, bathing and contact with rain is acceptable.

All in contact dogs and cats should be treated with Advantage to ensure maximal effectiveness of the product. However, any unweaned puppies or kittens do not need to be treated prior to weaning as protection is conferred to them by their treated mother. Treatment needs to begin at weaning, or in the case of orphaned or abandoned puppies or kittens, treatment can start at any age.

Advantage is safe to use on pregnant and lactating animals.

How to Use Advantage Flea Control

Advantage is a spot-on product and is applied externally to the animal in a manner according to its weight.

Cats: open the appropriate sized tube, part the hair to skin level behind the neck and apply the entire contents to this area.

Dogs less than 25kg: open the appropriate sized tube and apply the entire contents to the skin between the shoulder blades by parting the hair to skin level at this point and squeezing the tube.

Dogs 25-50kg: use 1 tube from blue pack divided and applied at skin level between the shoulder blades, between the hips, and at one point in between.

Dogs more than 50kg: use 2 tubes from blue pack divided and applied at skin level between the shoulder blades, between the hips, and at one point in between.

Advantage Flea Control Pack Sizes

Advantage is available in several sizes to ensure accurate dosing of dogs and cats of all sizes.

Cats: There are 2 different sizes for treatment of cats.

1. For cats less than 4kg the orange box is used.
2. For cats over 4kg the purple box is used.

Dogs: Due to the vast differences in dog weights, Advantage is available in 4 different sizes for dogs.

1. Dogs under 4kg - green pack
2. Dogs 4-10kg - aqua pack
3. Dogs 10-25kg - red pack
4. Dogs over 25kg - blue pack (dogs over 50kg require 2 blue tubes at each dosing).

Owners should be aware of changes in their pet's weight, especially in growing animals to ensure they continue to dose their animal correctly.

Tips and Tricks for Giving Advantage Flea Control

Spot-on treatments such as Advantage are usually well tolerated by animals as their application is minimally invasive. However, in some animals techniques which can assist in the rapid and effective application of the product include:

• Having another person offer a small treat to the animal whilst Advantage is being applied
• Having another person hold the animal still and distract the animal with pats
• For dogs which like to roll in the grass after application, taking the dog for a short walk immediately after application can be of benefit.

Advantage Active Ingredients

Advantage is a clear liquid containing the active ingredient imidacloprid at 100g/L. This disrupts the normal nerve transmission in fleas and lice, causing their death.

Advantage Flea Control Contraindications and Warnings

Should not be used on animals other than those which the product is registered for and only in the manner specified by the manufacturer.

Harmful if inhaled or swallowed.
