Belts have been migrating north for years now, and this season the waist belt is definitely where it’s at. Designed to flatter and draw attention to the lovely little waistline of the hourglass frame, opt for one that is fitted and gently nips in at the waist. The rule is to accentuate and define – not squeeze – the waist.
The spring/summer season is forecast to include a number of waist belt revivals that will embrace emerging trends such as metallic, nautical, faux fur, neon and intricate jewelled and baroque embellishments. Though there is much to be said for the classics, navy, tan, white, black or even pops of colour in red and muddy gold will linger for many a season in the hourglass wardrobe. Skinny or plait/woven belts are simple, easy-wearing styles.
Team a bold-coloured waist belt with a favourite blouse and pencil skirt to add a little shapely charm, or add detail to a minimalist form-fitting dress with an embellished waist belt.
