With every conceivable item on sale at jaw-dropping prices, it’s easy to splurge on unnecessary purchases at this time of year.
Yvette Le Grew shows you how to fashion-forward your wardrobe at bargain prices, avoid buyer's remorse and have fun at the same time!
1. List, list, list!!
A sure-fire way to avoid regretting your sale purchases is to make a list of the wardrobe staples you need before you go, and set yourself a budget. Remember 50% off something you don't actually need is a waste of money, not a bargain!
2. Stick to the Staples
When it comes to fashion, you can be assured that the trend-heavy or ‘it' colours of the season will all be heavily reduced, but ask yourself if a neon yellow jumper will stand you in good fashion stead next winter before you bag that so-called bargain. Seeking out the staple wardrobe items in classic colours and shades are instant winners when it comes to shopping the sales. Key pieces to look out for are; denim jeans in a brand you know and a size that fits, plain tee's in white, black, grey, navy or a strong colour like red, trench coats, little black dresses, sharp and crisp white shirts, classic pumps, ballet flats, neutral clutches or handbags, underwear and hosiery - to name just a few.
3. Dress for Success
Getting the most out of a day at the sales is all about being in the right frame of mind so make sure you're well rested, energised and in a positive shopping mood. Equally as important is what you're wearing to the sales! Here are some easy and useful tips to make your day easier and more practical:
- Change rooms can be a nightmare so wear a thin layer under your outer layer to make slipping things on in the store much easier
- Wear comfy and easy to remove shoes - this is not the day for your killer heels
- Be mindful of the bra you wear and keep underwear ‘decent' for those communal change room situations
- Don't take your husband/boyfriend/male friend - they may not cope with anything but a quick exit!
4. Mind the Company
You may shop better alone or with a friend; either way, be sure you choose your company (or lack of) carefully. Boyfriends and husbands usually want to make a quick exit during the chaos, or may dawdle and slow down your fashion fabulous search! Making a day out of shopping the sales with a friend can be fun, but ensure you choose your most patient and honest friend for their reliable feedback.
Most of all - ENJOY!
